At some point in the life of a producer/engineer, you have to make that leap from cracked plugins to owning the real thing. Luckily the days of expensive and quality plugins is long gone and you can find a variety of powerful and effective products for low prices and in some cases free. Here are some links to get you started.

Plugin Alliance
http://www.plugin-alliance.com

If you don’t know about Plugin Alliance I suggest you get real familiar with them. They distribute high end plugins from manufacturers like Brainworx, Maag, Elysia and SPL which are essential to any engineer’s arsenal. And while the prices are on the more expensive end, they routinely have sales and promotions where you can get even their priciest plugins at a fraction of the cost. Sign up on their mailing list to stay updated on future sales.

Flux
http://www.fluxhome.com

There’s nothing budget about Flux’s line of plugins as they are some of the most expensive around BUT, they do offer 2 very useful free plugins, ‘Bittersweet’ and ‘Stereo Tools’. Bittersweet is a single knob transient designer that can give your tracks that extra slap and Stereo Tools gives you top notch stereo image analysis and management.
